"Something Wicked" (rehearsal) – shootin' in the dark-2…
Sep 5, 2025
Two more from the shootin’-in-the-dark effort. Fortunately, some (mostly guys) can look cool with exposure pushed beyond all recommendations. The intro shot is Jimmyo, the drummer sitting far in the back behind a plexiglass sound buffer wall. Every year about this time I throw in a shot, from the front, catching a moment with no one blocking. It takes a LOT of cropping and fixing, but it’s always a favorite of mine. This one is no exception – and I’m always completely surprised at the expression as at the time, it’s pretty much invisible to me…
The shot below is of Jason, Rogue keyboard man (and I hear this year a member of the barbershop quartet – temporarily replacing an ill member of the foursome). He was close by, too close. Set the lens on wide-angle and held the camera down by my thigh. So few guys look this good bald… and the sign behind is a nice touch.

I’ll be busy tonight shooting The Hushdown at the Star Centre in town – who, by the way, will be featured in the Rogue Swan Halloween vaudeville in October. One of the tracks on their new CD fits right in.
