CABARET – "…and the orchestra is beautiful!"
Sep 29, 2026
I finally managed to get the entire “orchestra” together for the band shot. Immediately after the curtain closed, on the final performance, I jumped in. Had to – you’ve never seen people scatter to the winds as fast as a herd of musicians after a performance. And then, taking a “test” shot (two quickies), Jarrett wanted to see it. Declaring it good, he had me show it to Lilli (director), and when sh liked it ok, they all scattered. I’m simply standing there wondering what the heck just happened. I had them in front of the camera, after Jarrett arranged them, for a grand total of about fifteen seconds…
No time for Katie’s traditional goof-ball pose, but this IS Cabaret. Rogue Swan’s next major performance will be a Vaudeville somewhere around March. I can’t wait – they are fun. And I’ll shoot every performance, coming up with a lot of cool stuff. As far as Cabaret: as gut wrenching as the story is, the production was magnificent and the experience of shooting what I was allowed to (their contract) was a privilege. I will, however, be able to create Rogue an internal (non-public) zine of Dress Rehearsal images.
The quote in the post heading is a line Rogue Swan worked into both the opening and final numbers, deservedly so…
PS – Coming up: a Rosie Jack and the Bangtails performance / and the big October Bellydance Hafla, always a challenge.
